That Looks Like It Hurts!
So, Mary and I began taking a pregnancy class last week to prepare us first-timers for that exciting/stressful/scary time when the baby is finally ready to leave mommy's tummy. The first class was designed to help us learn the signs of early labor, and how to prepare yourself for the contractions and such. The second class, however, confirmed my worst fears...the birth video! Everyone's seen it at some point in their lives: a 10-20 year old video of women giving birth, including CLOSE-UP shots of the...ahem...area! I was not prepared for that AT ALL! I guess it's good that they are showing it to us, though, because if at Mary's delivery was the first time I saw that stuff, I might not survive. Did you know that after giving birth to the baby the mother gives birth again about 30 minutes later?? It's not to another baby...it's to the placenta!!! AAAAHHH!! For those of you who don't know, the placenta is a sack of blood vessels and tissue that connect the baby's umbilical cord to the mother's uterus. It basically looks like a big, bloody cow stomach. They showed a close-up shot of a mother giving birth to the placenta, and then the doctor took it out and was like playing with it and stuff. As weird as it sounds, it actually reassures me that Mary is a bit grossed out as well. I'm glad she's not like "Oh come on and man up you baby!" We're both in the same boat. I just pray that when that day finally comes that I will have enough strength to be her rock and to support her during that process.

Yes, the placenta scene made me light headed. At least by that point in the birthing process we'll already have met our baby!
You'll do GREAT!!! I have confidence in you. :)
